Welcoming Majid Bekkas Gnawa Ensemble
Arts Midwest was thrilled to welcome Majid Bekkas Gnawa Ensemble to the U.S. today at the organization's headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Along with oud player Brahim Fribgane, the ensemble will be the first Moroccan musicians to tour for Caravanserai.
Anticipating Caravanserai
As I eagerly prepare for my third Caravanserai journey, I also feel a bit of uncertainty.
When I meet the Moroccan group at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, what will they be like? How well will we get to know each other during our four weeks on the road? Will I know how to act appropriately, since they are from an unfamiliar culture and a part of the world where I’ve never been?
